"In the long run the most unpleasant truth is a safer companion than a pleasant falsehood"
~ Theodore Roosevelt
When we hear the phrase, "The truth sets you free," it often sounds cliché or overused. But have you ever stopped to think about how deeply true that statement really is? Truth has a way of showing up in our lives—sometimes gently, sometimes like a freight train—forcing us to face it, feel it, and, ultimately, embrace it.
When we avoid the truth, it feels like we’re swimming against the current, exhausted but getting nowhere. Maybe you’ve been there—holding onto something or someone because facing the truth feels too hard. I’ve been there, too. There’s safety in denial, at least for a little while. But over time, the things we avoid have a way of creeping into our lives, demanding our attention.
Recently, I’ve been reflecting on how facing the truth—my own truth and others' truths—has shaped my life. Truth isn’t always easy to look at. It challenges us. It’s uncomfortable. But here’s the thing: the truth is always worth it, because on the other side of truth is freedom.
Little White Lies, Big Heavy Burdens
We’ve all done it: told ourselves little lies to make things feel better in the moment.
“I’m fine."
“This job is good enough.”
“They’ll change.”
Sound familiar? The lies we tell ourselves usually stem from fear—fear of change, fear of failure, fear of the unknown. But the cost of these lies is heavy. They keep us stuck in places we don’t belong, relationships that no longer serve us, and careers that leave us unfulfilled.
I remember a season (time in my life) where I convinced myself I was okay with the status quo. The truth? I wasn’t. My spirit was restless, and deep down, I knew it. It wasn’t until I faced the truth—really faced it—that I could start to move forward.

Truth Bombs: They Are Never Convenient
Truth is rarely convenient. It tends to show up at the most inopportune moments, asking us to do the hard thing. For me, one of those moments came when I had to acknowledge that something I was pouring my heart into wasn’t aligned with who I was anymore. It was terrifying to let it go—like releasing a lifeline I thought I couldn’t live without. But the moment I did, I felt lighter, as if a heavy weight had been lifted, and for the first time in ages, I could finally breathe. Even others noticed the change in me—my energy shifted, and I felt free to step into a new chapter with clarity and possibility.
Have you ever experienced that? The moment where you finally let go of a false narrative or accept a truth you’ve been avoiding? It’s like a weight is lifted off your shoulders. That’s the freedom truth brings.
Accepting Others' Truths
Here’s the thing: truth isn’t just about us. Sometimes it’s about recognizing the truth in others. This can be even harder. We want to see the best in people. We hold onto potential or hope for change. But what if their truth is different from what we want it to be?
I’ve learned that accepting someone else’s truth—even if it’s not what I want—is a gift to both of us. It’s not my job to change them or fit them into my vision. It’s my job to honor their journey while staying true to mine.
Finding Freedom in Truth
Freedom doesn’t come from perfection. It doesn’t come from having all the answers or living a perfectly curated life. Freedom comes from living your truth, fully and unapologetically. It’s about waking up every day and choosing authenticity over approval, courage over comfort.
When you live in alignment with your truth, everything changes. You stop chasing things that aren’t meant for you. You create space for what truly matters. And you inspire others to do the same.
Unleashing the Power of Your Truth
What truth have you been avoiding? What’s weighing on your heart, asking for your attention? Maybe it’s time to let go of that job, that relationship, or that belief that’s no longer serving you. Maybe it’s time to step into the life you’ve been dreaming of but too scared to pursue.
Take a moment today to get quiet, breathe deeply, and ask yourself:
What truth do I need to face?
Write it down. Feel it. And then, take one small step toward freedom.
The truth will always set you free—if you let it.
